Our program is dedicated to preserving and celebrating our community’s history. By recognizing important sites, we aim to keep our heritage alive for future generations. Program Goals:
Raise Awareness – Inspire the community to value and protect local history.
Educate – Share the stories behind these sites through signs, brochures, and digital platforms.
Engage – Encourage residents to nominate and advocate for meaningful locations.
Document – Create an archive of recognized sites for future reference.
How Sites Are Recognized:
Sites must be 50 years old and meet one or more of the following criteria:
● Historic Significance – Connected to key events, people, or traditions.
● Architectural Value – Notable craftsmanship or design, even if modified.
● Cultural Importance – Represents community identity, folklore, or traditions.
● Educational Potential – Helps future generations learn about our local history.
Nomination Process:
Community members can nominate sites by submitting our supplied form:
● Basic Information – Name, location, and a brief description.
● Historical or Cultural Significance – Explanation of why the site is important.
● Photos or Supporting Documents – Optional but encouraged.
Site Review & Approval:
A panel of historians, board members, and community leaders will evaluate nominations and select sites for recognition.
Recognition & Outreach:
Recognized sites will receive:
● Markers & Signs – Informative plaque/s or sign/s highlighting historical details.
● Digital Presence – Features on our website and downloadable app.
Ongoing Preservation Efforts:
● Annual Recognition – New sites will be added each year, 1 minimum.
● Educational Programs – Walking tours and community events will showcase recognized locations.
